Daniel Hulme was born 7 October 1979 in Melbourne, Victoria. His family moved to Tasmania in 1990.

Daniel attended Glen Dhu Primary School, Prospect High School and Launceston College. He was awarded dux of Prospect High School in year 10.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Computing with Honours from the University of Tasmania in 2001 and a Master of Business Administration in 2008.

In 2002 and 2003, Daniel served as President of the University of Tasmania Student Association, representing the Launceston campus and North-West Centre (now Cradle Coast Campus).

His work history includes:

• Branch Development Manager for the Australian Computer Society (Tasmanian Branch), 2003-04

• Client service representative in a call centre at the Australian Tax Office, 2005-06
• Provision of Advice case officer, Australian Taxation Office, 2006-07

• Electorate Officer for Premier Paul Lennon, August 2007 to May 2008
• Electorate Officer for Premier David Bartlett, May to June 2008
• Electorate Officer for Senator Catryna Bilyk, July 2008 to January 2009

Daniel has been a member of the Australian Labor Party since early 2000 and has held various positions including:

· National Secretary of Young Labor, 2002-03

· State President of Young Labor, 2005-06

· Chair of Resource Management & Development Platform Committee, 2006-present

· Secretary of the Channel Branch, 2007-present

Prior to being elected, Daniel was a volunteer with the Sandford Fire Brigade, Treasurer of Friends of the ABC Tasmania, a member of the Tasmanian Branch Committee of the Australian Republican Movement and a member of the Clarence Plains Historical Society, the Cremorne Bowls Club and Amnesty International Australia.

Daniel was elected to the House of Assembly on 2 February 2009 by a recount following the resignation of Paula Wriedt.

He currently lives at Sandford on the South Arm Peninsula.

Franklin was named after Sir John Franklin (1786-1847), Lieutenant-Governor of Tasmania (1837-1843). He also accompanied Matthew Flinders on a voyage to chart the south coast of Australia in 1801. He died on an expedition to the Arctic.

Franklin covers an area of approximately 7933 sq km from Bridgewater in the north to Port Davey in the south and Seven Mile Beach in the east. The City of Clarence is in the division of Franklin. Other major towns include Blackmans Bay, Bridgewater, Cygnet, Dover, Franklin, Geeveston, Huonville, Kingston, Margate and Snug as well as Bruny Island.

Products and industries of the area cover apples, pears, small fruits, fishing, beef cattle, sheep, forestry, cottage industry and tourism.
